Shaggy Woolen Christmas Tree Tutorial

I was inspired by today to make a shaggy woolen Christmas tree. A what? I hear you say.
Have a look here at this beauty from Anthropology

it costs £98

.....and while I am sure it is worth every penny, I don't think Mr H would be best pleased!
So what to do.....mmm.....make one! Why not have a little go!
I thought about trying to felt the wool so the effect would be the same, but then decided that would be a bit tricky, since I have never felted anything in my life!
So here is what I did.....

STEP 1

Knit a cover for a candle
I used Chunky knit wool and 10 mm needles

Step 2

I sewed that knitting up.

STEP 3

This was easy yet time consuming!
I used chunky knit, worsted weight wool and a little bit of baby alpaca, all from my stash.

STEP 4

My tree looked like a cone shapped shaggy mess!

STEP 5

Put it on display and swoon over what you have just made!

What do you think?
Do you think it needs a star on the top?
Please leave a comment below, I would love to know your opinion!

Or I would love you to share your Christmas tutorials with me,
I am all geared up for a homemade Christmas on Orchard Road!

I agree, I think yours is better than the original! Very creative! I think it looks great as it is, but a star on top would be great too, to add a little sparkle.
